Workplace use of surveillance technology target of new bill from Assemblyman Ash Kalra

A state lawmaker from Silicon Valley is out with a proposal that would give workers some protection from having their employers monitor their activities when they're off duty. Assemblyman Ash Kalra on Monday proposed a bill called the Workplace Technology Accountability Act, or AB 1651. Set to be heard Wednesday in the Assembly's committee on Labor and Employment, the measure would create privacy standards that employers would have to adopt if they use digital tools that track what people do on the job.
