The Kansas City Royals announced the 2022 Spring Training breaking rosters for all of their minor league affiliates and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals’ preliminary roster of 28 players features 22-year-old left-handed pitcher Asa Lacy, the fourth overall selection in the 2020 MLB Draft and the top pitching prospect in the Royals’ organization.

From the moment left-hander Asa Lacy signed his contract and buttoned up the ceremonial Kansas City Royals jersey in front of the team backdrop after having been taken fourth overall in the 2020 MLB Draft, it appeared he’d be on a fast track to becoming a front-of-the-rotation starter in the majors.
Many of the Royals’ best pitching prospects are returning from injury-shortened seasons, yet as MLB.com’s Anne Rogers writes, most of these young arms are back at the club’s minor-league camp in good health. The most prominent of these names is Asa Lacy, the fourth overall pick of the 2020 draft and a consensus top-40 prospect heading into the 2021 season, though his stock has dropped a bit after a rough debut year.
In 2020, the KC Royals selected Texas A&M lefthander Asa Lacy with the fourth pick in the first round of the major league draft. Although he’s a hot Kansas City pitching prospect, Lacy found himself going through growing pains this year in his first season with the Quad City River Bandits at the High-A level.
