Armin Shimerman

Armin Shimerman Hoped Quark Could Correct A Major Star Trek Misstep

In the first few episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," the Ferengi were spoken of in hushed tones. A new, mysterious, malevolent species had come to power in the span between "Star Trek" and its 1987 sequel series, and they promised to be a galactic threat on the level of well-known Trek baddies like the Klingons or the Romulans. In the first four episodes of the show, allusions would be made to the Ferengi's power and tendency toward violence. In the pilot episode, "Encounter at Farpoint," it was implied that the Ferengi were cannibals who would eat their victims. This was, however, likely a flip joke on the part of Captain Picard.

Flashback Friday: Armin Shimerman was right about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Armin Shimerman was apparently spot on about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s legacy. We’re going back to 2017 this week, looking back at Red Carpet News TV, who got to interview Nana Visitor of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fame. For those new to the franchise of Star Trek, Visitor was Kira Nerys on Deep Space Nine, who was a hot-headed but kind Bajoran officer assigned to the Starfleet complement aboard the space station.

Throwback Moment: Armin Shimerman appears on Regis and Kathie Lee for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Relieve Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Armin Shimerman appearance as Quark. Long before Kelly Ripa and Ryan Secrest took over, the morning talk show “Live” was once hosted by Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford. They were a staple of American mornings for many years and were among one of the most-watched shows during their heyday. The variety show was probably most known for its fun interview segments and they interviewed everyone and anything. Even greedy, little, Ferengi from the Alpha Quadrant. That’s right, your favorite con-man and business owner from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Quark, once appeared on Regis and Kath Lee. Quark, played by Armin Shimerman, showed up in his full garb.
