Aristides Aquino clears waivers, Reds outright him to Louisville

Aristides Aquino was designated for assignment on April 30th. Today he officially cleared waivers and the Cincinnati Reds outrighted the outfielder to Triple-A Louisville. Aquino, affectionately known as The Punisher, had one of the more memorable first months of a career as anyone in all of Major League Baseball history. He hit .320/.391/.767 with 14 home runs – setting records for the fastest to X-number of home runs to begin a career along the way. But August of 2019 was a long time ago.

Reds designate Aristides Aquino for assignment

The Cincinnati Reds have designated outfielder Aristides Aquino for assignment. The team needed to create a spot on the 40-man roster for pitcher Connor Overton, who is making the start against the Colorado Rockies this evening. Aristides Aquino, in a major slump offensively, gaining respect with his arm

LOS ANGELES – Aristides Aquino has thrown out two runners at the plate this season and Gavin Lux didn’t give him an opportunity to raise that number to three. Three innings after Aquino tossed out Justin Turner at the plate with a one-hop throw, Lux tagged at third and paused when Aquino caught a fly ball with medium depth in the fifth inning Friday at Dodger Stadium. Third-base coach Dino Ebel stood halfway down the line for a better view, but he put up the stop sign once Aquino secured the catch.

Reds' Aristides Aquino: Benefiting from Senzel's absence

Aquino will start in right field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Aquino has been the main beneficiary of Nick Senzel (illness) landing on the COVID-19 injured list, as the former will pick up his fifth consecutive start in the outfield Sunday. Over the previous four contests, Aquino has gone 1-for-14 with a home run, a walk and two RBI.

Reds' Aristides Aquino: Slugs homer in loss

Aquino went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Dodgers on Thursday. Aquino got another start for the Reds despite striking out in all four of his plate appearances Wednesday. He struck out two more times Thursday but produced a big two-run blast that provided the team's first runs and chased Walker Buehler from the contest during the sixth inning. Aquino's power can be tantalizing, but his massive strikeout numbers limit his playing time and make him mostly an afterthought in fantasy.

Reds' Aristides Aquino: Reds' fifth outfielder

Aquino will begin the season as the Reds' fifth outfielder behind Tommy Pham, Tyler Naquin, Nick Senzel and Jake Fraley, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. With Max Schrock out for four-to-six weeks due to a calf injury, Aquino gets a little extra time to earn a roster spot. He's out of options, so if he does lose out on a major-league spot, he could be off the 40-man roster entirely.

The Reds are not ready to cut ties with Aristides Aquino just yet

Some fans may not like it, but it's looking more and more like Aristides Aquino will be part of the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day roster. The Punisher hasn't done anything spectacular this spring to warrant a spot on the 28-man roster, but the way things are unfolding should give Aquino one last opportunity to prove his worth.

The Reds should release Shogo Akiyama and keep Aristides Aquino

The Cincinnati Reds outfield has all of the sudden become quite crowded. Tommy Pham reportedly agreed to a one-year/$7.5M contract. Since the contract has not yet become official, Cincinnati has not revealed who will lose their spot on the 40-man roster. With all things being equal, it should be Shogo Akiyama.

Reds: Aristides Aquino does not receive passing grade for 2021 season

Have we seen the last swing from Aristides Aquino in a Cincinnati Reds uniform? It’s possible. The 27-year-old was unable to attain a fourth minor-league option prior to the start of the season, and that really was a shame, because The Punisher seemed overmatched at the big league level in 2021.

Aristides Aquino powers the Reds to a crucial win over the Tigers
