Britt Reid Pleads Not Guilty to Charge in Crash That Injured 5-Year-Old Ariel Young

Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated causing serious physical injury in connection to his February car crash. Reid's Dodge Ram truck collided with two stationary vehicles on an on-ramp to Interstate 435 near Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. A five-year-old girl, Ariel Young, suffered permanent brain damage as a result of the crash.

5-Year-Old Girl, Ariel Young, Critically Injured In Crash Involving Britt Reid Likely Has Permanent Brain Damage, Family Attorney Says

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CBS/AP) — An attorney for the family of a 5-year-old girl critically injured in a crash involving former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid says the girl suffered a devastating brain injury that has left her unable to speak or walk. Ariel Young likely has permanent brain damage “that she will endure for the rest of her life,” attorney Tom Porto said in an interview broadcast Tuesday with ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Once in awhile things happen leading up to those bookmarks that themselves become markers and reference points. This year, for me the car crash involving Britt Reid is one of those events, as if a pandemic and election wasn't enough.

Updated on February 16, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.: Ariel Young, the five-year-old that was injured in the car accident with Britt Reid, is out of her coma. An initial update was posted by Tiffany Verhulst last night on the GoFundMe page for Ariel’s family that says “Ariel is awake.” However, while this post didn’t go into any further details about Ariel’s condition, a later post from Verhulst early Tuesday evening detailed “a long road to recovery.”
