Anton Blidh finally may be establishing a foothold with Bruins

NEW YORK — Anton Blidh has been here before, one foot planted under the NHL’s Big Top tent, only to be pointed back to AHL Providence for his continued career studies. Now it looks as though the 26-year-old Swede is here to stay, albeit not necessarily as a headliner.

The Boston Bruins continue to go through the carousel of player availability that, well, every team deals with during an NHL season. He has been out the last two games after leaving Thursday’s win over the Washington Capitals following a big hit from Tom Wilson.

Bruins' Anton Blidh: Sporting non-contact sweater

Blidh (upper body) was wearing a non-contact jersey for Monday's game-day skate, Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reports, indicating he'll miss out against Anaheim. Blidh will miss his second straight game due to his upper-body issue. Prior to getting hurt, the 26-year-old Swede was stuck in a four-game pointless streak. With 20 games under his belt this season, the winger has already set a new personal best in games played in addition to goals (two) and assists (six).

Bruins' Anton Blidh: Suffers upper-body injury

Blidh (upper body) won't return to Thursday's game versus the Capitals. Blidh was hit hard by Tom Wilson in the first period, and it's enough to keep the former out of the remainder of the contest. An update on Blidh's status should surface before Saturday's game versus the Jets.

Bruins' Anton Blidh: Not playing Saturday

Blidh (upper body) has been ruled out of Saturday's game versus Winnipeg, Joe Haggerty of BostonHockeyNow.com reports. Blidh exited Thursday's game against Washington in the first period after suffering an upper-body injury. The 26-year-old has averaged 10:29 of ice time and recorded eight points over 20 appearances this season. Blidh and Brad Marchand's (upper body) absences leave Boston thin at forward and a call-up is likely to undertake the lost minutes.

Bruins’ Anton Blidh Impressing in Limited Role

Every season there are surprises and disappointments. While there has definitely been a fair share of disappointments with the Boston Bruins, there have also been some really pleasant surprises. One is Oskar Steen, who has five points in eight games and is a plus-four. But there is another player who has quietly had an impact on the team this season: Anton Blidh.

Why Brad Marchand Thought Anton Blidh ‘Changed The Game’ Vs. Canadiens

As the Boston Bruins continue playing at an exceptionally high level, there has been one commonality: they are receiving contributions up and down the lineup. When Boston stumbled early in the season, a big part of the problem was trouble garnering offensive production from any group but the top line. Over the two weeks, the scoring has been spread out, all while the depth players continue to also impact games in non-scoring ways.
