Lightning's Anthony Cirelli: Focusing on checking not scoring

Cirelli delivered four blocks and three hits in Saturday's 2-1 win over Toronto in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference First Round series. Cirelli isn't focused on points this postseason -- he has one goal in seven playoff games. But he is a Selke-worthy performer whose value is measured in the weight of the wet blanket he lays on the opponent's best player.

Lightning's Anthony Cirelli: Expected back Tuesday

Cirelli (undisclosed) is slated to rejoin the lineup versus Columbus on Tuesday, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports. Cirelli will step back into his third-line center role with his undisclosed injury behind him. The 24-year-old Ontario native needs just three more points to top the career-high 44 he put up back in 2019-20. With a trio of contests remaining in the regular season, Cirelli still has an outside shot of reaching the 20-goal threshold for the first time in his five-year NHL career as well.

Lightning's Anthony Cirelli: Two helpers Saturday

Cirelli collected two power-play assists in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over the Red Wings. The 24-year-old had the secondary helper on each goal as Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos did most of the work, but it still ended up being Cirelli's first multi-point effort since Jan. 11, and his first power-play points since Jan. 4. Even with Saturday's performance, however, Cirelli has just one goal and five points through 13 games in March.

Lightning's Anthony Cirelli: Eight points in last 12 games

Cirelli played 16:29 and fired four shots in a 4-3 overtime win over Arizona on Friday night. Cirelli has eight points (four goals, four assists) in his last 12 games, but his ice time was his lowest since Nov. 15 when he picked up 17 PIM and second-lowest of the season dating back to Oct. (that penalty-filled affair aside). Cirelli skated the same number of shifts (24) as normal, so we're not overly concerned. Cirelli is a future Selke nominee and with 28 points in 42 games, he continues to provide solid secondary scoring for your squad.
