23andMe founder Anne Wojcicki became the country's newest self-made billionaire after her company merged with a blank check company led by Richard Branson last week. The value of the Sunnyvale, California-based business rose about 21% after its debut on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker “ME,” giving it a market cap of about $5.9 billion.

The SPAC boom has minted another billionaire. Genetic testing firm 23andMe went public today via a merger with special purpose acquisition company VG Acquisition Corp., which was founded by UK billionaire Sir Richard Branson. Anne Wojcicki, the cofounder and CEO of 23andMe, owns at least 99 million shares of the merged company; with shares trading on Nasdaq under the ticker “ME” at $11.21 as of 11:00am ET time Thursday morning, her stake is worth approximately $1.1 billion.
