Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons has placed eighth in Most Improved Player voting behind runaway winner Memphis Grizzlies All Star Ja Morant. Morant, 22, recorded 38 first-place votes, nine second-place votes and four third-place votes, totalling 221 points after playing in only 57 regular season games. He put up averages of 27.4 points on 34 percent three point shooting, 5.7 boards, 6.7 assists and 1.2 steals.

The Trail Blazers confirmed Monday in a press release that center Jusuf Nurkic and guards Anfernee Simons and Eric Bledsoe won’t return for the team this season. According to Monday’s announcement, Nurkic (left foot plantar fasciitis) and Simons (patellar tendinopathy in his left knee) have responded well to treatment and rehabilitation, with Nurkic’s rehab program reducing his symptoms and increasing the “overall function” of his left foot and ankle.

The Portland Trail Blazers announced Monday that Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season because of injuries. Guard Eric Bledsoe, acquired in a trade last month, also was ruled out for the rest of the season. He has not appeared in a game for the Blazers because of tendinopathy in his left Achilles tendon.

Tre Mann’s game this season has been, in one word, smooth. Mann has dazzled with his elite shot creation and separation skills, as well as large scoring outbursts. Portland announced Monday that Simons will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season due to patellar tendinopathy in his left knee. In addition to Simons, Jusuf Nurkic (foot) and Eric Bledsoe (Achilles) have also been shut down for what's left of the season. It's an unceremonious end to the campaign for Simons, who stepped into a larger role with Damian Lillard (abdomen) missing extensive time and CJ McCollum getting shipped to New Orleans at the deadline. The 2018 first-round pick will close his fourth NBA season with averages of 17.3 points, 3.9 assists, 3.1 three-pointers and 2.6 rebounds per game. He's on pace to lead the Blazers in total points, three-pointers and assists for the season.

Simons (quad) remains out Monday against the Thunder. Simons hasn't played in nearly a month as he deals with tendinopathy in his left knee. As a young player on a developmental roster, he's not the type of player who would typically be sat for tanking purposes, but it's possible the Blazers simply exercise caution and continue holding Simons out down the stretch.
