Keller made the commitment to Iowa State in July after a visit to both Iowa and Iowa State. The three-star recruit had other offers from Michigan State, Kent State, Minnesota, Texas, Indiana, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Toledo. Keller was part of the Waunakee team that won the WIAA Division 2 state title, along with his teammate Jack Dotzler that joined Iowa State rival Iowa.

Iowa State TE commit Andrew Keller wins state title with Waunakee

Iowa State tight end commit Andrew Keller finished his senior season on a high, winning a state championship with his high school Waunakee. Keller helped Waunakee to a perfect, 14-0, season as a senior and the Warriors took home their first state title since 2017 with a 33-21 win over Homestead. Keller caught five passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Of the returning players on this year’s Waunakee football team, Quentin Keene and Andrew Keller are two of the most familiar with the bright lights of Camp Randall Stadium. The tandem played crucial roles in the Warriors’ 31-30 loss to Brookfield East in the 2019 WIAA Division 2 state championship game as sophomores. After having the lights go out on them two years ago, the senior best friends shined in them Friday afternoon.

But until yesterday I’d never actually attended the unveiling of one of these objects – or even thought about what’s involved in creating a blue plaque and having it approved.
