Twins' Andrelton Simmons: Snaps skid with three hits

Simmons went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 4-2 win over Texas. Entering Sunday, the shortstop was 0-for-11 across his last four games. Simmons fixed that with a three-hit effort, his second such performance of the year. Twins' Andrelton Simmons: Not in lineup Friday

Simmons (ankle) is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Rangers. Simmons exited Wednesday's game against Seattle with left ankle tightness. The issue is not thought to be severe at this point, but given the shortstop's long history of ankle injuries, it's hard to not be at least a little bit concerned from the Twins' standpoint. Jorge Polanco will shift to shortstop for the series opener, with further update on Simmons possibly coming later Friday.

Simmons was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mariners in the fourth inning with an undisclosed injury, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. There's yet to be any indication of what caused the shortstop's early exit. Jorge Polanco shifted over to short, Luis Arraez moved to second and Trevor Larnach entered the game in left after Simmons' departure.

Twins' Andrelton Simmons: Nursing sore ankle

Simmons is out of the lineup Thursday against the Royals with ankle soreness, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Jorge Polcano will move to shortstop in his place while Nick Gordan starts at second base.

Twins' Andrelton Simmons: On bench Wednesday

Simmons is not starting Wednesday's game against the Orioles. The shortstop receives a day of rest after consecutive 2-for-4 showings against the Orioles. He's hit .321 in his last eight games, providing a valuable spark at the bottom of Minnesota's lineup. Jorge Polanco fills in at shortstop.

Twins' Andrelton Simmons: Two hits in win

Simmons went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Orioles in 10 innings. Simmons concluded May with five two-hit games, but all but one of those 10 hits were singles. The veteran shortstop has never been regarded as a major source of power, but his contributions in that department are even lighter than usual this season. He's holding down a .321 slugging average for the season, which would be the lowest mark of his career by 10 points.
