Sebas Mendez’s Absence Provides Chance for Andres Perea to Step Up

As has been the case for a couple years now when the Ecuadorian national team has fixtures, Sebas Mendez has been called up to represent his country. He will be with the team until at least June 27, Ecuador’s final group game of Copa America, and potentially longer if the team can manage to avoid finishing last in Group A and qualify for the knockout stages.

SSFC Spotlight: Andrés Perea steadies the midfield

The increased focus on the recruitment of dual-national players allows the United States Men’s National Team to inject the depth chart, sometimes unexpectedly, with talented prospects. One of the recent victories was convincing Andrés Perea to change allegiances from Colombia to the USMNT. While the latter competition was an unsuccessful enterprise, the 20-year-old midfielder could prove to be a regular inclusion over the next decade.

Orlando City Midfielder Andres Perea Could Expand His Role in 2021

As part of our Season in Review pieces for the 2020 season, I wrote Andres Perea’s piece, breaking down how he fared during his first year in Orlando. The most surprising thing to me was finding out that the then 19-year-old played in all but one of Orlando City‘s games last season, missing only the final of the MLS is Back tournament. Granted, some of those appearances were only limited minutes during the final stages of games, but it’s still striking.

Benji Michel, Andrés Perea among 4 Lions eager to help USMNT win

Ahead of his anticipated U.S. men’s national team debut at Exploria Stadium on Sunday, Orlando City forward Benji Michel lost count of his ticket requests. The Orlando native thinks the total tallied up to 50, maybe more — family members, old teammates, friends from middle and high school who lost touch years ago.
