Steve and Tana Nance honored with farewell reception, Dec. 4

Steve and Tana Nance were honored with a farewell reception on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 4 by the members of the First Methodist Church of Groesbeck and the Thornton Methodist Church. The affair was held in the MAC building in Groesbeck. Steve Nance has been part of the two churches for 12 and a half years. The Nance’s provided a very positive leadership for the two churches. A very large number of church members from both churches attended. Other friends also attended. Delicious refreshments were served. Steve and Tana gave words of thanks for the kind deeds and love shown them during the past 12 and a half years. The members of the Groesbeck and Thornton Methodist Churches and many other friends will miss the couple very much. Please come back often.

Kirstie Alley may have had to "fake" her résumé to get in the room for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but according to filmmaker Nicholas Meyer, he was all in on casting her to play Saavik -- the half-Vulcan, half-Romulan member of Starfleet -- once he saw her. The character was one of the most important roles that had to be cast specifically for the film -- after all, most of the main cast, as well as Khan himself, had been cast for the TV series -- and turned out to be the start of a decades-long career for Alley, who also appeared in the Look Who's Talking franchise.

VERBENA, Ala. (WBMA) — The sentencing of multiple members of a Verbena, Alabama family in connection to a cockfighting operation was concluded Tuesday. According to the United States Department of Justice, seven members of the Easterling family were "held accountable" for operating a large-scale cockfighting arena (cockfighting pit) and massive fighting-bird breeding businesses, and for conspiring to violate the Animal Welfare Act and to operate an illegal gambling business.
