Marvel's Luke Cage Star Alfre Woodard Joins Stephen King's Salem's Lot

The cast for New Line Cinema's big screen adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot has just gotten a major new addition with Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard signing on for a role. Deadline reports that Woodard will play a gender-swapped version of Dr. Jimmy Cody from the original novel, just referred to as "Dr. Cody" in the trade's write-up. As in the book, Woodard's character joins some of her fellow townspeople to hunt down the vampire threat. She joins a cast that includes Lewis Pullman (son of actor Bill Pullman and star of Bad Times at the El Royale) as lead character, Ben Mears. Others set to appear include Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, and Spencer Treat Clark.

Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot adaptation casts Alfre Woodard

Stephen King’s 1975 novel Salem’s Lot is getting a new adaptation and has some horror veterans behind its name. Gary Dauberman, the man behind the ghost movies Annabelle, and The Nun, is set to direct and write the flick, with The Conjuring filmmaker James Wan, onboard to produce. Now, according to Deadline, the horror movie has also bagged a big star, as Oscar-nominated actor, Alfre Woodard, has officially joined the cast as Dr Cody.

Alfre Woodard Joins 'Salem's Lot' as Dr. Cody

The cinematic Stephen King universe has gained another legendary star. Deadline reports that Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of New Line’s adaptation of Salem’s Lot alongside Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Spencer Treat Clark, and Bill Camp. Woodard is set to play Dr. Cody — who, in King’s original novel, was a man — the Van Helsing type who assists the novel’s protagonists in fighting the spread of vampires in their small town.

In Stephen King’s novel, Dr. Cody is a male character, Jimmy Cody, who assists Ben Mears in battling the vampires who have infested Jerusalem’s Lot.
