The Case for Alex Tuch as the Next Sabres Captain

While much of the conversation around the next Buffalo Sabres captain has (rightfully) focused on Kyle Okposo, Alex Tuch is another worthy candidate who should be considered for the honor. Let me be clear: this is in no way a slight against Okposo. He is absolutely deserving of the captaincy,...

Buffalo Sabres Player Season Report Card: Alex Tuch

In one of the biggest trades in franchise history, the Buffalo Sabres sent Jack Eichel and a third-round pick to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, and a first and second-round pick. The return was met with mixed reviews, as is usually the case when high-profile players are traded, but those concerns were put to rest pretty quickly after Tuch and Krebs showed how impactful they can be on the ice. Specifically, in Tuchs’ case, he became a huge part of the Sabres from day one with his on-ice ability, desire to both play and win in Buffalo, and leadership qualities he brought to the group.

Then on Nov. 4, the Vegas Golden Knights sent him to Buffalo as part of the blockbuster Jack Eichel trade.

Sabres' Alex Tuch: Gelling with Sabres

Tuch supplied a power-play assist in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Islanders. Tuch is averaging 2.6 points per 60 minutes, which is a career-best mark in his first season with the Sabres. Injuries have been a concern for the New York native, plus his supporting cast isn't as strong as it was for him in Vegas, but the difference is that he's averaging a career high in ice time (18:20), including 2:51 on the man advantage.

Sabres' Alex Tuch: Two helpers against Nashville

Tuch picked up two assists in Friday's 4-3 win over the Predators. He had a hand in both of Tage Thompson's first-period tallies, helping his linemate reach the 30-goal plateau for the first time. Tuch has cooled off a bit lately and has only two goals and eight points through 15 games since the beginning of March, but with two multi-point efforts in the last three contests, he could be gearing up for another heater.

Sabres' Alex Tuch: One of each in win

Tuch scored a goal on two shots, dished a power-play assist, blocked three shots and added two hits in Monday's 6-5 win over the Blackhawks. Tuch helped the Sabres make their final push Monday. He scored the game-tying goal with 2:14 left in the third period, then helped out on Tage Thompson's game-winner with 12 seconds left in the contest. It's been a tough stretch lately for Tuch, who entered Monday with just seven points in his last 18 outings despite remaining in a top-line role. The winger is up to 28 points, 103 shots on net, 37 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in 35 appearances.

Sabres' Alex Tuch: Provides helper Sunday

Tuch managed an assist and three shots on goal in Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Canucks. Tuch set up Rasmus Dahlin on the game-winning goal 48 seconds into overtime. The assist was just the second point in Tuch's last eight games, though he's been active with 26 shots on net in that span. The 25-year-old hasn't looked out of place on the Sabres' top line, logging 25 points, 97 shots and a plus-5 rating through 31 contests this season, so he'll remain a solid depth winger in fantasy.
