Alex Roldan named to MLS Team of the Week for Week 14

Major League Soccer on Tuesday named Seattle Sounders forward Alex Roldan to the Week 14 Team of the Week following his excellent display against Charlotte FC on Sunday. After dominating the opening period of the match against Charlotte, the visitors took a 1-0 lead against the run of play courtesy of Ben Bender's goal when a free kick rebounded off the post. Seattle continued to push for the equalizer throughout the match, coming close on several occasions, but were unable to find the breakthrough.

Here to Stay: Alex Roldan returns to the Sounders

Alex Roldan is here to stay. The Seattle Sounders announced on Thursday that Roldan has signed a three-year contract with the club. Originally drafted out of Seattle University in 2018 as a midfielder, the younger Roldan has developed into one of the best outside backs in Major League Soccer, starting all four playoff games in 2020 before locking down the starting job at right wingback in 2021.

Will Bruin approached his 12th MLS preseason with a different plan, instead of setting scoring and assist markers, the veteran’s goal this year is to simply be available. “I’m at a point where I need to prove to everybody that look, I can stay healthy and durable like I used to be,” the Sounders forward said Thursday. “Maybe last year was just life, a little bump in the road. I’m looking forward to turning that around and being healthy and dependable and scoring goals.”

Sounders FC Re-Signs Defender Alex Roldan

SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC today announced that it has re-signed defender Alex Roldan to a three-year contract from 2022-2024, with a club option for 2025. The 25-year-old returns to Seattle after a breakout 2021 season for both Sounders FC and the El Salvador National Team. A 2021 MLS All-Star Game starter, Roldan recorded a career-high 29 MLS regular-season appearances and 26 starts, as well as his first 12 international caps in 2021.

Alex Roldan called in by El Salvador for October World Cup qualifiers

It looks like the Seattle Sounders will have to dig a little deeper into their depth during the October World Cup qualifying window. When the Sounders announced the players who were called up by their respective countries for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, one glaring omission was defender Alex Roldan.
