Coyotes 2022 Offseason Player Reviews: Alex Galchenyuk

With the Arizona Coyotes officially in offseason mode, I’m taking a look each week at a player from the team and review their season. First up this week is forward Alex Galchenyuk. No stranger to the desert, he made his way back to the Valley of the Sun for the first time since 2018-19 this offseason, signing a one-year contract after attending training camp on a professional tryout.

Coyotes' Alex Galchenyuk: Provides two helpers

Galchenyuk notched a pair of assists, two shots on net and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 5-4 win over the Predators. Galchenyuk set up both of Shayne Gostisbehere's goals as the Coyotes bounced back from a four-goal deficit for the shocking win. The 28-year-old Galchenyuk logged a goal and four helpers in his last seven games this season. He finished the campaign at 21 points, 89 shots, a minus-11 rating and 67 hits in 60 outings. He's played with five teams over the last three seasons, so it's unclear if he showed enough to earn another contract from the Coyotes.

Galchenyuk recorded an assist and two PIM in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Blackhawks. Galchenyuk has picked up a goal and an assist in two games since he returned from a two-game stint as a healthy scratch. The 28-year-old forward continues to make the most of a tough role with 18 points through 55 contests this season. He's mainly seen middle-six minutes, but the fluidity of the Coyotes' roster has seen him often switch linemates every few contests.

Coyotes' Alex Galchenyuk: Losing place in lineup

Galchenyuk has been a healthy scratch for the last two games. Galchenyuk has been sat to allow recent signings Jack McBain and Nathan Smith to enter the lineup. It's not without merit -- Galchenyuk went 13 games without a point prior to his trip up to the press box. The 28-year-old has been solid with 16 points, 77 shots on net and 61 hits in 53 outings this season, but the Coyotes may opt to evaluate younger talent for the remainder of the campaign.

Coyotes' Alex Galchenyuk: Offers helper in win

Galchenyuk managed an assist and two blocked shots in Monday's 5-3 win over the Senators. Galchenyuk helped out on Lawson Crouse's first goal of the contest. The 28-year-old forward has 15 points, 56 shots on net, 41 hits and a minus-4 rating in 39 contests overall. With a second-line spot and a role on the second power-play unit, Galchenyuk could be helpful in deeper fantasy formats.

The American forward is up to 10 points, 46 shots on net, 24 hits and a minus-1 rating through 28 appearances. Galchenyuk scored an empty-net goal on two shots, added an assist and went plus-3 in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Kraken. Galchenyuk set up Nick Schmaltz's second-period tally before netting one of his own in the third. With three goals and an assist in his last four games, Galchenyuk is becoming a bit more reliable on offense. The 27-year-old is up to nine points, 44 shots on net, 22 hits and a minus-3 rating in 27 appearances overall. It'll likely be tough for him to main consistency even with a top-six role in a poor offense.
