I am 100% willing to admit this may be the most freezing cold take I’ve ever uttered (besides ketchup on eggs being good — come at me Betsy — or everybody loving Giannis Antetokounmpo) but Alex DeBrincat was the best player for the Chicago Blackhawks this season — especially once Marc-Andre Fleury was traded at the deadline — and is the most important player going forward for the Blackhawks.

It’s been a trying season for the Chicago Blackhawks, and no one knows that as well as Alex DeBrincat. If he can stay healthy for just one more week, DeBrincat will be the only player on the Blackhawks roster to play in all 82 games this season. It will be the third (of five seasons) in which DeBrincat will have played in all 82 games. It’ll also be his fifth consecutive season in which he won’t get a taste of Stanley Cup Playoffs action (the real thing, anyway … I’m not counting the 2019-20 bubble experience).

It’s been a career year for Alex DeBrincat, and it continued on Monday night when he drilled home a third-period goal against the Philadelphia Flyers. The goal was his 41st of the season, tying his career-best goals total (2018-19). The goal also gave DeBrincat 77 points on the season, a new career-high.

DeBrincat scored a goal on four shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Flyers. DeBrincat gave the Blackhawks a little more breathing room with his third-period marker. With the goal, he tied his career high of 41 tallies in a season while setting a new personal best with 77 points. He entered the contest on a seven-game goal drought — tied for the third-longest drought of his NHL career — and was sitting on 39 goals for the last three weeks.

DeBrincat recorded a power-play assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Kings. DeBrincat stretched his point streak to five games with the helper. In that span, he has a goal and eight assists -- he's turned to playmaking lately with just two goals in April. The star winger has matched his career high in points with 76 (40 goals, 36 helpers), and he's added 257 shots, 99 hits and a minus-13 rating through 78 outings. He'll have four chances to establish a new personal best in points, and he's one goal shy of his career high as well.
