Aesop: A Review of the Skincare Brand and Its Best Products

A few years back it might’ve been suitable to refer to Aesop as a ‘cult favorite,’ but judging by its global fame and legions of loyal fans, ‘superstar skin and body care brand’ is more like it. Yet, despite its fame and reach, Aesop is still as down-to-earth as many of its key ingredients, as approachable as its instantly-recognizable apothecary style bottles and, with more than 230 stores around the world and a bustling online business, as accessible as ever.

What Aesop's Fables Teach Us About Animals

I recently read Dr. Jo Wimpenny's book Aesop’s Animals: The Science Behind the Fables and simply couldn't put it down.1 The clever ways in which Jo wove in current scientific facts about topics including future planning, tool use, self-recognition, cooperation, and deception with Aesop's lessons was spellbinding and I'm thrilled she could take the time to answer a few questions about her landmark book. If I were still teaching my introductory and critical thinking courses on animal behavior, Aesop's Animals would be required reading. Here's what Jo had to say.

What We Lose as Snowfall Disappears, the Science behind Aesop’s Fables, and Other New Books

The Last Winter: The Scientists, Adventurers, Journeymen, and Mavericks Trying to Save the World. Little, Brown, 2021 ($28) With each new report about the impending—and ongoing—effects of climate change, it’s easy to catastrophize. In the coming decades, as glaciers around the planet melt and sea levels rise, hundreds of millions of people living in low-lying coastal communities will be forced to relocate to higher ground. But the mountains are no safe space either, as wildfires increase and water becomes scarce—both of which are a result of disappearing snowfall. “Frozen water has made our world,” writes author Porter Fox. “And as it vanishes, everything in our backyards, our cities, our homes, our jobs, and our lives is going to change.”
