Dan Stevens is ready for action. The Downton Abbey actor, 39, is set to star in a sequel to 2021's box-office-shattering Godzilla vs. Kong, Deadline reports. Stevens will be directed by Adam Wingard, who also helmed the first film that starred Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry, among others.

Director Adam Wingard (“The Guest“) is a busy fella with projects like a “ThunderCats” movie and “Face/Off” sequel on the horizon, among others. His next big outing will be Legendary‘s follow-up to the hit Monsterverse film “Godzilla vs. Kong” and he’s added a familiar face to the cast.

After the absolute joy that was The Guest, Dan Stevens is finally reteaming with director Adam Wingard. The Godzilla vs. Kong director has brought the Downton alum on board for the monster-smashing sequel for Legendary’s awkwardly named “MonsterVerse.” It’s monsters, it’s a universe, it’s a portmanteau. They really need to workshop that. Details on the project as sparse, and Stevens is the first to be cast, but filming is already slated for this summer in Australia.

Director Adam Wingard (“Godzilla vs Kong“) and writer Simon Barrett’s “The Guest” starring Dan Stevens is easily one of the better modern attempts to recreate the tone of a 1980s action sci-fi hybrid film. “The Guest” certainly has DNA from filmmakers like John Carpenter, James Cameron, Paul Verhoeven, and Chuck Russell (“The Blob,” “Dream Warriors“) all mixed in to create something that harkens back to an era when major studios backed high concept R-rated genre projects.

During April Fools’ Day in 2022, director Adam Wingard — who helmed the 2014 thriller before moving on to bigger franchises, including directing last year’s Godzilla vs. Kong — released a soundtrack to The Guest II, a film that doesn’t exist. However, due to the original The Guest‘s cult classic status, as well as the love of the original soundtrack, the April Fools’ Day prank was received incredibly well, and even potentially opened the door to a new film being made.
