Orioles' Adam Plutko: Getting crushed by long ball

Plutko has allowed a home run in each of his last five outings. In that span, he's given up 10 runs in 7.2 innings while striking out just four. The right-hander hardly seen little high-leverage work with just one save and five holds in 37 appearances. Plutko's recent struggles have ticked his ERA up to 5.66 through 55.2 innings this year.

Orioles' Adam Plutko: Collects first save

Plutko allowed a walk and no runs in two-thirds of an inning to earn the save in Monday's 9-7 win over Houston. Regular closer Paul Fry was deployed in the eighth inning of a tied game, but Baltimore rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth. Fry was inefficient in the ninth, but Plutko was able to secure the last two outs while throwing just six pitches. The 29-year-old typically works in a multi-inning role -- Monday's save was his first of the year to go with five holds, two blown saves and a 1-2 record.

Orioles' Adam Plutko: Works 2.2 innings

Plutko allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two in 2.2 innings in a 9-0 loss to Toronto on Thursday. After starter Dean Kremer only managed to get one out, Plutko was brought in for a long relief assignment. The 29-year-old wasn't much better, giving up a solo home run to Vladimir Guerrero and a pair of RBI doubles to Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette. All five of Plutko's appearances in June have been between two and three innings -- Baltimore appears to have him stretched out for at least a piggyback role when necessary, as he threw 49 pitches (34 strikes) Thursday. The right-hander owns a mediocre 5.54 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB across 39 innings.

Orioles' Adam Plutko: Pitches 2.1 innings

Plutko allowed a run on three hits and struck out three across 2.1 innings in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to Cleveland. Making his first appearance against the only franchise he'd ever known until this year, Plutko delivered a credible relief performance. Overall, though, he's in the midst of a rough patch, having given up 19 runs (18 earned) in his last 12.1 innings spanning nine appearances. Plutko has a 5.61 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 29:12 K:BB and five holds across 33.2 innings spent mostly in a low-leverage bullpen role.

Orioles' Adam Plutko: Dealt second loss

Plutko (1-2) took the loss Monday versus Minnesota. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out one in one inning. Plutko allowed the initial runner in the 10th inning to score on a wild pitch. It wouldn't have mattered ultimately -- Jorge Polanco took Plutko deep with two outs to provide just enough insurance for Minnesota to win. The right-hander gave up 13 runs (12 earned) across 12.1 innings in May. For the year, he's produced a 4.61 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB across 27.1 innings. He's collected five holds and taken two blown saves in 21 outings.

Orioles’ Adam Plutko tries to stay positive despite slump: ‘What’s the point of dwelling on a lot of us maybe struggling for a hot minute?’

When Orioles reliever Adam Plutko introduced himself to his new club after the spring trade from Cleveland with a run of scoreless innings and a wistful declaration that they’d go 162-0 this year, both his mound presence and mindset were viewed as positive additions to an inexperienced pitching staff. All the losses piling up — six in a row and 13 of 15 after Sunday’s 6-5 loss, with Saturday’s ...

Orioles' Adam Plutko: Starting Sunday against Yankees

Plutko will start for the Orioles against the Yankees on Sunday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. This will be Plutko's 16th appearance and first start for Baltimore after he was traded from Cleveland shortly before Opening Day. His home-run rate this season is well below his career mark (1.89 HR/9), and his 17.1 percent strikeout rate leaves a lot to be desired. Further, he's hasn't gone more than three innings in an appearance this season, so it's difficult to see him qualifying for the win.

Adam Plutko falters, and the Orioles lose their sixth straight vs. the Red Sox

No reliever has been asked to keep more inherited runners from scoring than Baltimore Orioles right-hander Adam Plutko. He couldn’t complete that task Sunday. After rookie starter Dean Kremer allowed consecutive singles to open the sixth inning against the Boston Red Sox, Manager Brandon Hyde brought in Plutko to retain a one-run Baltimore lead. But a walk and a two-run double by Rafael Devers gave Boston a lead it didn’t relinquish in beating the Orioles, 4-3, at Camden Yards.

Orioles' Adam Plutko: Charged with blown save

Plutko allowed two inherited runners to score and allowed a hit and a walk in one inning to take a blown save Sunday versus Boston. He struck out one. Plutko can't be fully blamed for the blown save -- starter Dean Kremer allowed consecutive singles to begin the sixth inning before the call to the bullpen was made. Plutko allowed a two-run double to Rafael Devers, with the runs charged to Kremer. The 29-year-old Plutko has been solid this season with a 0.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB across 19 innings. He's a versatile option for manager Brandon Hyde, but he's only picked up three holds while often working in lower-leverage situations.

Cleveland Indians player who should’ve been kept: Adam Plutko

At the rate the Cleveland Indians are going, twice every fifth day, the Tribe will fall behind five runs by the time the second inning ends. Logan Allen was demoted to the alternate site following another outing in which he was shelled, early. Now, Triston McKenzie is the latest pitcher who’s forgotten how two pitch. The former first-round pick couldn’t find the strike zone after a dominant first inning.
