Cleveland's Aaron Civale to miss time with finger injury

Add the Cleveland Indians to the growing list of MLB clubs dealing with multiple pitching-related injury setbacks in the early days of summer. According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Cleveland manager Terry Francona told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game at the Chicago Cubs that starting right-hander Aaron Civale will be examined by a hand specialist Wednesday and probably land on the injured list because of an issue with the middle finger on his pitching hand that forced him out of Monday's matchup at Chicago before he completed five full innings of work.

Indians RHP Aaron Civale leaves game with finger injury

The Indians’ rotation depth has been tested already, and they could now be facing another injury. Right-hander Aaron Civale left Monday night's game with two outs in the fifth inning with an injury to his right middle finger. The Score’s Travis Sawchik notes, via Twitter, that the medical staff was testing the mobility of Civale’s finger as opposed to looking at a potential blister. There’s no official diagnosis, but for a Cleveland club that already has Shane Bieber (shoulder strain) and Zach Plesac (fractured hand) on the injured list, any injury scare for the club’s most proven starter is particularly noteworthy.
