Threat of flash flooding continues through noon on Saturday

A flash flood warning issued by the National Weather Service in Indianapolis remains in effect until noon Saturday for Monroe, Greene and Owen counties. Additional storms may arrive in the area through 11 a.m. from eastern Illinois with the potential to add another inch of rainfall to the already saturated ground.

INDIANAPOLIS — Most areas in central and southern Indiana have picked up 2-4" of rainfall in the past 24 hours. The highest report of 7.41" was reported in Spencer in Owen County. Flash flood waters will begin to recede as the morning rain moves out but always remember to turn around and find an alternate route if you come to a flooded roadway.

Flood damage prompts emergency declaration in Owen County

OWEN COUNTY, Ind. — Damaged from recent heavy rainfall prompted Owen County officials to issue an emergency declaration Saturday. Owen County Emergency Management said Owen County roads have suffered severe damage. 23 culverts have been washed out, with two bridges suffering significant damage. In all, over 30 Owen County roads are closed.

Flood Warnings, Clean-Up Continues After Severe Storms Dump 8 Inches Of Rain

Forecasters say rain will end by 12:30 p.m. Saturday, but flooding will continue from the three to eight inches of rain that fell Friday evening through this morning. Flood warnings for most of south central Indiana continues until 6:45 p.m. Owen County is under a travel watch advising for essential travel only, such as to and from work or in emergency situations. Monroe County is under a travel advisory restricting travel in flooded areas.

Mildred Mae (Freeman) Hendricks, 91, of Owen County passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Garden Villa in Bloomington. She was born on July 9, 1929 in Owen County, the daughter of Estel and Pearl (Hendricks) Freeman. Mildred grew up on the family farm, where she worked side by side with her father and siblings. Her father taught her the value of hard work and determination. She left the farm in her late teens to work at RCA, marry, and start a family. Later in life, she was employed at the Eberle Hardware store and Indiana University. She retired from IU in the early 1990s, after working in the Audio-Visual Department for approximately 30 years. She was a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Hendricksville.
