Line crews at Moapa Valley Water District (MVWD) scrambled to make repairs on a major water distribution pipeline on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 30. OBITUARY: Belva Talbot

Belva Talbot, age 93, passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born August 17, 1929 in Snowville, Utah to Sheldon Bealy and Claudia Helenia Peterson Cutler. On August 21, 1946 she married Joseph Harvey Talbot in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2000.

For more than ten years, Holiday Windows by Connie, Cortnie and Esther, has been painting car windows for the Christmas season at no cost to the Moapa Valley community. The Bonanza High School girls basketball team ran into a buzzsaw named Virgin Valley on Monday night, Nov. 28 as they were overmatched 61-20 by their hosts. Virgin Valley led 17-4 after one period as their defense controlled the ball. Six Bulldogs scored in the period led by seniors Riley Price and Brooklin Montoya with 5 and 4 points respectively.

Mental Health has become a life-long battle for an increasing number of people. In the State of Nevada, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youths aged 10-24. The Mesquite Works STEAM education center has gotten its first educational project set up and ready to get started. Members of the center’s new Student Advisory Council got together earlier this month at one of their weekly meetings to assemble a brand new commercial-grade hydroponic system to be used at the local center.

Jingle Jogging for a good cause

The 2nd annual Joe Perez Jingle Jog 5K took place on Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning at the Grant Bowler Elementary parking lot. The affair was to help raise money for events focused on mental health in the Moapa Valley community. Organized by the M.V. Teen Leadership Corps (TLC), and sponsored by MVCEAB, Nevada Cooperative Extension, and Clark County Parks and Recreation, the TLC youth are in charge of planning various events throughout the year.
