Sibley man arrested for spray-painting

SIBLEY—A 20-year-old Sibley man was arrested Tuesday, May 25, on an Osceola County warrant for fifth-degree criminal mischief. The arrest of Landon Michael Edward McConnell stemmed from him allegedly using a black spray can to vandalize the exterior walls of the building of Drink Me Brewing Company in Sibley, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

SIBLEY—The Osceola County Board of Supervisors is considering temporarily raising insurance on the Osceola County Fairgrounds due to the rising cost of lumber and steel. Osceola County Two Vehicle Accident Sends One to Hospital

Osceola County, IA (KICD) — One person was injured following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 by the Highway 60 southwest ramp Tuesday evening. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says upon arrival, they determined 63-year-old Kathleen VanMarel of Orange City was driving a 2015 GMC Terrain south on the off-ramp going towards Highway 9 while 36-year-old Pedro Morales of Worthington, Minnesota was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey eastbound on Highway 9. VanMarel did not stop while Morales swerved but was unable to avoid the collision.

Evacuation order lifted following fiery Iowa derailment

SIBLEY, Iowa (AP) — An evacuation order that was issued for part of a northwest Iowa town following a fiery weekend train derailment has been lifted, authorities said. The Osceola County sheriff’s office announced Monday night that people were allowed to return to their homes and affected businesses would be able to reopen.

Forty-seven railroad cars, including some containing hydrochloric acid, potassium hydroxide and asphalt derailed and caught fire. No one was injured in the derailment.
