Osage County Fairground Buildings Get New Fans

At Tuesday's Board of Osage County Commissioners meeting, District One Commissioner Randall Jones brought forth quotes for new fans at the agriculture building and the indoor arena at the Osage County Fairgrounds. Jones said the cost of the new fan at the indoor arena would be just over $13,000, while three fans inside the agriculture building would cost more than $24,000.

Piper leads District 1 commissioner primary

Retired college president Dr. Everett Piper on June 28 led a four-candidate field in the Republican primary for District 1 commissioner of Osage County. In unofficial results, Piper received 871 votes, or 46.08 percent of the total. Randall Jones, the incumbent commissioner, finished second with 721 votes, or 38.15 percent.

OCCA inducts Cheves, Justesen into HOF

The Osage County Cattlemen’s Association on June 17 announced the induction of two new members into its Hall of Fame. The OCCA announced the new Hall of Fame members at a luncheon during its 88th annual convention. The organization named the late Herbert Eugene “Jack” Cheves Jr., as well as Michael J. Justesen, as the 2022 Hall of Fame honorees. Family members provided introductory remarks.

Jones, Piper going to Runoff, Other Osage County Election Results

After weeks of campaigning across the largest county in the state, Osage County voters finally went to the polls on Tuesday to make some major decisions. In the race for the District One Commissioner seat, there will have a runoff between the Republican incumbent, Randall Jones and Dr. Everett Piper. It was Piper edging out Jones by 150 votes, but Piper only reached 46 percent of the vote total, as challengers Clay Hughs and John Brazee chewed up an additional 15 points. The winner of the August runoff will face the lone Democratic challenger in Thomas Trumbly.

Hominy Man Sentenced to Life in Prison

A Hominy man was convicted at trial this week in Osage County on multiple counts stemming from a series child sexual abuse incidents that occurred with a 15-year-old female victim.
