Police evacuate shoppers, employees from Nordstrom Rack in Pleasant Hill

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- There were reports of police activity at the Sun Valley Mall in Pleasant Hill, Tuesday evening.Pleasant Hill police issued an advisory asking people to avoid the area around Nordstrom Rack, around 8:30 p.m. Police said the area was blocked off and employees and shoppers were being evacuated from the store while officers investigated.This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.

On September 17 a woman was arrested and charged with DUI and resisting arrest after refusing to exit her vehicle for over five minutes. Piedmont’s Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system reported a hit on a blue 2002 Jeep Liberty SUV at Ronada Avenue and Parkside Drive. The driver was described as an Asian female in a black shirt. A Piedmont Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop.

Tucker Carlson gives speech at Hells Angels funeral in NorCal

It was a mismatch for the ages: Generationally wealthy San Franciscan Tucker Carlson speaking in front of the Hells Angels, America’s most famous outlaw motorcycle gang.  On Saturday, the Fox News pundit took to the stage at the funeral of Sonny Barger, the man who founded the Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels in 1957. Barger, 83, died of liver cancer at his Livermore home in late June. The funeral was heavily attended; thousands of bikers descended on Stockton for the 6-hour affair. According to Carlson, he was invited to the funeral and "cleared [his] schedule" to get from "Maine to Stockton."  

Lawsuit demands San Francisco stop homeless camp sweeps

SAN FRANCISCO — (AP) — Homeless people and their advocates sued the city of San Francisco on Tuesday, demanding that it stop harassing and destroying the belongings of people living on the streets with nowhere to go, and with the goal of forcing the city to spend billions of dollars on affordable homes that will keep residents housed.

Deputies: Suspect in Lafayette attempted home invasion injured, taken to hospital

LAFAYETTE – A man tried to invade a Lafayette home Saturday night and suffered injuries trying to do so. Lafayette police were called at 8:22 p.m. to a report of a suspicious circumstance at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Carol Lane. Officers arrived at the apartment complex to find the suspect injured, according to Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee. The man, whose identity hasn't been released but was a resident of the complex, was arrested on suspicion of home invasion robbery, kidnapping, and false imprisonment.  He was also taken to the hospital. Lee said Monday the suspect will be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility when medically cleared. The investigation is ongoing. Having a regulation competition pool means the world to our high school program. Few people know this, but the sport of water polo is played entirely in deep water, you cannot touch the bottom. The old pool PHS competed in was shallow on one end and so narrow you could push off the walls to swim. Imagine playing basketball in a gym and one basket was 5 ft high and the other was 10 ft high with walls directly out of bounds, or playing on a football field only 73 yards long.

Suspected carjacker arrested after victim turns out to be off-duty police officer

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A suspected carjacker is behind bars after his victim turned out to be an off-duty San Francisco police officer.It happened Tuesday near San Francisco State University just before 11 a.m., in the 500 block of John Muir Drive near Lake Merced Boulevard, according to police.. A man described as a 22-year-old male approached the off-duty officer. When the officer identified himself and tried to detain him, the suspect fled into a building. The officer took chase and found the suspect hiding on a balcony. Police said the officer arrested the suspect without incident and thanked San Francisco State University police for their assistance. 

Two teens charged with firearm felonies in Pleasant Hill Park shooting

PLEASANT HILL --  Several firearm felony charges have been filed against a pair of East Bay teens after they allegedly fired several rounds at a group of juveniles who had gathered in Pleasant Hill's Pleasant Oaks Park.The Contra Costa County District Attorney's office said 19-year-old Alexander Martinezcurena of Pittsburg and 19-year-old Saul Jimenez of Antioch both face a four-count felony complaint with enhancements for the crime of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.According to investigators, the shooting took place on September 9 at Pleasant Oaks Park around 10:55 pm following a high school football game. A group of high school students were at the park when shots were fired in their direction.  In the aftermath, several witnesses saw two males in a black car flee from the scene. The ensuing police investigation led to the suspects and the vehicle involved. Jimenez was subsequently arrested on September 11th in Antioch and Martinezcurena on the 21st in Pittsburg.   Jimenez will be arraigned in Martinez on September 27 and is being held on $680,000 bail. Martinezcurena will be arraigned at a future date and his bail amount has not been set.

Update: Firefighters quickly control 2-alarm fire at vacant restaurant in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG – Firefighters in Pittsburg on Tuesday quickly controlled a fire that broke out at a vacant commercial building that once housed a restaurant.Around 11:40 a.m., the Contra Costa County Fire Department said the fire was burning at a structure on the 2900 block of Harbor Street, not far from Highway 4. The fire had grown to two alarms.Less than an hour later, firefighters said the fire was out and the building was searched. No injuries were reported.In an update Tuesday afternoon, investigators said they have determined the fire began in a storeroom. Investigators could not rule out a possible cooking fire as a cause and that homeless people were reported inside the restaurant shortly before the fire.Contra Costa firefighters said the location has seen "considerable homeless activity," which included another fire over the weekend.
