Marlene Smith, 77

Marlene Janice (Schmidt) Smith was born Nov. 11, 1943, in Omaha, to Arnold and Irene (Voss) Schmidt. She died Sept. 21, 2021. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. Marlene grew up on the family dairy farm west of Bennington, where she developed a love for animals (except for chickens!). Her favorite color was blue, and she loved pansies and hollyhocks. Marlene went to school in Bennington, where she was a cheerleader and played volleyball. She was also crowned athletic queen! After high school, she worked at Boystown in the donor office, and then at Guarantee Mutual as a clerk.

Services for Lorene McKinnis, age 95, of Blair, who died Sept. 25, 2021, will be held at First United Methodist Church on Thursday Sept. 30 at 11 a.m.. Graveside services will follow in the Blair Cemetery. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m., at Reach Church (formerly Country Bible). Visitation will be held Wednesday Sept. 29 with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Douglas Davidson, 83

Douglas L. Davidson, age 83, of Blair, passed away Sept. 12, 2021. Visitation will be held Sept. 29 at 6 p.m, at Campbell Aman Funeral Home with a memorial service at 7 p.m.. Doug was born on April 28, 1938, in Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y., to Gordon and Emma Davidson. He attended public school in Bellrose, N.Y., through fifth grade and Nassau Christian School sixth through eighth grade. He began his high school career at Baldwin High School and graduated from Stony Brook School on Long Island, N.Y. He graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman, Mont. Doug held a number of jobs, including at a slaughterhouse, a dairy farm, a furniture store, and a mailroom for a large insurance company in NYC. He also worked for his father-in-law’s construction company, building their nursing home - the Florence Convalescent Nursing Home. During his executive officer career, he held leadership positions in banking institutions, including the president of three banks. His last job was vice president of Huntel Systems. He writes, “the best job I ever had!” He began his retirement in 2003, “Retired - FREE AT LAST!”
