86-year-old hospitalized after driving into semi-truck, building

GRAHAM CO., Kan. (WIBW) - An 86-year-old man was hospitalized after running into a semi-truck and then a building on Monday afternoon in Graham Co. The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log indicates that just before 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, emergency crews were called to the area of Highway 24 and Palmeroy St. with reports of a 2-vehicle accident.

Fort Hays State University setting up barriers to stave off bird attacks

HAYS, Kan. (KWCH) - Classes at Fort Hays State University begin Aug. 22, and students and staff are being warned about potential bird attacks on campus. The university said a pair of Mississippi kites have nested in a tree between Forsyth Library and Malloy Hall on Campus Drive, and one is “vigorously defending the surrounding area of several hundred yards.”

The Arlington, Texas native known for his long-flowing red hair begins his sixth season at FHSU. After redshirting in 2017, Fuller made his first start in the next-to-last regular season game at Northwest Missouri State and helped guide the Tigers to the 17-16 win and their second-consecutive MIAA title. Joyce Deanne (Phillips) Essmiller, 96, passed away August 7, 2022, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas, after a short illness. She was born February 11, 1926, in Hoisington, Kansas to Mark Paul and Ida Marie (Willcutt) Phillips. She spent her early years in Hoisington before moving to Great Bend. She graduated from Great Bend High School and married her high school sweetheart, Arnold Essmiller, Jr. on January 19, 1944. They celebrated almost 74 years of marriage before his passing on November 21, 2017.
