Pontiac murder case advances to circuit court

The case against a Pontiac man accused of shooting another to death last October has been advanced to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial. Scott Furney, 23, is charged with first-degree premeditated homicide-murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the Oct. 12, 2020 slaying of Michael Mulholland, 36, punishable by life in prison. At the conclusion of a preliminary exam Friday in 50th District Court, Judge Michael Martinez determined there was enough evidence presented for the case to proceed.

Teen enters plea to reduced charge in slaying of Pontiac man

A teenager accused of killing a man in Pontiac last year has opted out of trial, pleading no contest to a reduced charge and a firearms offense. Ariel Rodriguez-Martinez, 17, entered his plea July 22 to one count each of manslaughter and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the death of Moises Rolon, 43. A charge of second-degree murder was dropped, along with four weapons-related offenses.

Davison man dead after motorcycle collides with SUV

A motorcyclist crashed head-on into an SUV on Wednesday afternoon in Brandon Township, resulting in his death, officials said. Killed was a 53-year-old man from Davison. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and a crew from the Brandon Township Fire Department responded to Oakland Road west of Tonda Drive shortly after 2 p.m. on a report of a crash involving two vehicles.
