7 charged, 2 injured in incident on Block Island Ferry that brought heavy police presence

The Rhode Island State Police today released details regarding the incident on the Block Island Ferry last night. Just after 9:30 p.m., Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police, as well as officers from the Narragansett, North Kingstown, and South Kingstown Police Departments, responded to reports of a disturbance on an Interstate Navigation Ferry enroute from Block Island to Galilee. In coordination with local EMS, members of law enforcement boarded the ferry, secured the scene, and arrested 7 individuals. 2 people were injured and were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Crash Closed Part of Route 66 in Marlborough Tuesday

Part of Route 66 in Marlborough was closed Tuesday after a crash. State police said the road was closed between Shepard Drive and Johnson Road. State police said there was a two-car crash just after 10:30 a.m. on Route 66, in the area of Sheppard Drive. Both drivers were conscious and alert and no information was immediately available on injuries.

(August 9, 2022) — In a mock scenario exercise on August 8, 2022, the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to Haddam Meadows State Park for a reported personal watercraft accident near Haddam Island. In three rotations, crews took turns accessing the scene via Marine-13. There, they worked to rescue multiple “patients” who were unconscious, injured, or inebriated, for the purpose of the drill.

Man, 75, dies in Lebanon mowing accident, state police say

LEBANON — A 75-year-old man died Monday after he went into a pond, apparently after falling off a ride-on lawnmower, state police said. Troopers were called to Tobacco Street about 10:50 a.m. to help local firefighters at a home where the man was reported to have fallen into a pond, according to police. The troopers learned a neighbor had discovered the man, unresponsive, in the body of water. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a Sunday fire at a multi-family residence in Norwich that brought in more than 50 local firefighters. The Norwich Fire Department was dispatched at 5:11 a.m. to 51 14th St. in the Greeneville section of the city for a report of a structure fire, Battalion Chief Michael Dziavit said in a press release.

A 21-year-old man was charged after police said he fled from troopers in a stolen Ford Mustang and crashed into mailboxes in Connecticut. At about 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, troopers were investigating a report that a vehicle was stolen at 12:45 a.m. in the Tolland County town of Willington, and while at a home on Ashford Center Road in Ashford, they saw the stolen Ford Mustang driving west, according to Connecticut State Police.
