UI police find dead person outside residence hall

IOWA CITY — A person was found dead early Friday outside a University of Iowa residence hall. UI police responded at 4:21 a.m. Friday to a report of a person found unresponsive by Burge Residence Hall, on the east side of campus, according to spokeswoman Hayley Bruce. Officers arrived one minute later and found the person was dead, Bruce said.

Muscatine man arrested after alleged sexual abuse at Coralville hotel

A Muscatine man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a Coralville hotel earlier this year has been arrested. Police say the incident occurred May 15th at the Heartland Inn on 2nd Street. 48-year-old Jeffery Vaughn is accused of committing a sex act on a woman at approximately 2:30am. Reports indicate that the woman was mentally incapacitated and could not consent.

Three weekend accidents claim lives in Davenport, Urbandale, near Iowa City

At least three people died in separate accidents on Iowa’s roads over the weekend. Davenport police say a motorcyclist was speeding on Friday night, lost control, hit a tree and the 51-year-old man was killed. In the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale, police say a bicyclist was hit by a car and killed Sunday morning. He’s identified as 55-year-old Eric Lindberg of Des Moines. There’s no word on charges against the driver.

Pleasantville’s volleyball squad will go back home for a home triangular, while the cross country squads will travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for their next meet. The Trojans’ volleyball squad comes into the triangular with a 9-6 record overall and 2-2 in West Central Conference play.
