Mayor nominates Downtown Bloomington business owner to fill Carrillo’s Ward 6 seat

BLOOMINGTON (Heart of Illinois ABC) – Bloomington Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe said Friday he’s nominating a downtown business owner to fill the vacant Ward 6 city council seat. De Urban is owner of Alley Kats Art and Antiques, and must win majority council approval to fill the seat formerly held by Jenn Carrillo, who resigned because she moved out of the ward. Aldermen will vote on Urban’s appointment Monday night.

Parents file class action lawsuit against Peoria-area school districts over COVID rules

Parents from eight Peoria-area school districts are participating in a lawsuit aimed at abolishing mask requirements in schools. The class action lawsuit against 140 school districts around Illinois was filed Wednesday at the Macoupin County courthouse in Carlinville. Parents from Dunlap, two school districts in Metamora, Germantown Hills, Eureka, Brimfield, Morton and Limestone in Bartonville are named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

Bloomington Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe has announced plans to submit business owner De Urban’s name to fill a city council vacancy in Ward 6. The city council is scheduled to vote on the nomination at its regular 6 p.m. meeting on Monday. The vote will come days before the city’s deadline to fill the vacancy. The seat has been vacant since August when Jenn Carrillo resigned after they purchased a home outside of Ward 6, which covers much of downtown and southwest Bloomington.
