(OLNEY) Here’s a note from the City of Olney : if Olney residents have any brush and limbs from last week’s storm, please be sure to have those by the curb no later than end of day this coming Friday, August 12th. The brush and limbs should be as close to the roadway as possible without being in the street or ditch. Brush and limbs placed out AFTER Friday, August 12th, will not be guaranteed for pick up. The City’s Brush Dump is available at no charge to the residents of Olney. While contractors have a $10.00 per load fee, all non-city residents have a $5.00 per load fee. (NEWTON) The 2022-2023 school year begins for Jasper County Public School employees with a Teacher’s Institute tomorrow, followed by the first full day of school on Thursday. After Parent’s Meetings last night for each grade level at the St. Thomas Catholic School in Newton, the first full day of school will also be Thursday. In the Jasper County School District, there will be Back to School “Open Houses” tonight from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Newton Elementary School and from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Ste. Marie Elementary School. (OLNEY) The Olney City Council met last night in regular session. The Council : approved the payment of bills as presented : approved an ordinance to regulate food truck vendors, although additional amendments are likely at future meetings : agreed to rezone property at 200 West Elm Street from R-3 (two-family residence district) to R-4 (multiple dwelling district) as recommended by the City’s Plan Commission last week : approved the $15,310 quote from Straffer Pump & Supply for a wastewater pump for the City’s West North Lift Station : took no action on adding additional boat docks to the East Fork Lake area : and after a closed session, approved an ordinance amendment for leaves of absences dealing with vacation times for city employees : also heard various reports and updates on work around the city : the next regular meeting for the Olney City Council will be August 22nd, 2022.
