I Took My Family on a Weekend Getaway to Saratoga Springs to Reset

Given the introduction of new variants and the current state of COVID-19 transmission rates, traveling is, well, a lot to deal with right now — especially if you’re traveling with kids under the age of 12. Of course, safety is paramount, and given the great losses we’ve seen over the course of the pandemic, a case of cabin fever is a small price to pay. Still, after a year-plus of being cooped up at home with my husband and six-year-old son, I was itching to go somewhere new.

Jake Moon restaurant closing Oct. 10

CLARKSVILLE — After nearly 13 years in business, Jake Moon Restaurant and Cafe will close after service on Sunday, Oct. 10. Chef-owner Dan Smith tells me he has sold the building, and, in a note to patrons, he writes, "This is a positive change for us. ... With the support of our loyal customers, we survived the pandemic and everything else the world has thrown at us. And yet there are things to do that can't be done while running a restaurant, and priorities are being redirected there." Jake Moon is named after Smith's great-great-grandfather, a legendary Catskills woodsman.

Getting There: Albany Airport traffic light timing

Q: Every day I drive by the airport on Albany Shaker Road and usually have a long wait at the main entrance to the airport. Clearly, the light is not timed based on the traffic on Albany Shaker and the traffic exiting the airport. While cars are backed up each way on Albany Shaker Road, there may be one or two cars exiting the airport and sometimes no cars. I have seen very long lines on Albany Shaker Road, especially heading west in the morning and east in the evening. I think traffic would move much more efficiently if the lights would be timed according to need.
