LUSK – Rabbit hides, walking sticks, wooden knives, sling shots, pillows and baked goods piled up on blankets and hides and those in attendance walked around. Dickering, trading, fun and a general atmosphere of a party were felt by those in attendance. They enjoyed trading and trying to get the most for their wares possible. Students from the Lusk Elementary were feeling much as those mountain men, American Indians and fur companies must have felt at the annual rendezvous held two hundred years ago.

LUSK – Students and community members filled the hallways and arts wing of Niobrara County High School and Middle School on Thursday, May 5. A special Cinco De Mayo fundraiser and student showcase was in full swing with visitors touring visual arts, metal arts, wood working and many other demonstrations. Members of FBLA lead tours through the halls and gave introductions and commentary on the various programs being showcased. Then, in each area, students from the classes were available to answer questions and demonstration different processes.

LUSK – The Niobrara County Commissioners discussed a possible loan for special districts during the regular meeting on Tuesday. Representatives of special districts in the county met with the commissioners and County Treasurer Keri Thompson to discuss Senate File 60 from the state legislature’s budget session in February which seeks to have ad valorem taxes rolled into monthly payments. Chairman of the Commission Pat Wade said Campbell and Johnson County had been hurt the most by the change as a transition was needed to be put in place from paying yearly to monthly mainly for the oil companies.

On Monday, the Wyoming Women's Center elevated its COVID-19 status to red, due to 14 positive test results from inmates. In order for a facility to enter red status, there must be a 14-day average facility transmission rate of 7% to 10%, according to the Centers for Disease Control, and/or the county transmission rate is high and 150 hospital beds are being used for COVID-19 patients.
