Norwich man gets prison sentence for defrauding non-profit

A Norwich man has been sentenced to 2 years in jail for defrauding a non-profit that provided continuing education to employees in the financial services industry. Michael Meakem, 59, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford to 24 months imprisonment followed by two years of supervised release, a $100,000 fine, and $683,202 in restitution for embezzling from his former employer.
