Newport County Athletes of the Week: June 6-12

In a trio of games, Bolano wielded a big bat. She blasted a home run, added a single and drove in three in Middletown’s 5-1 win over Exeter-West Greenwich in the regular season finale on Friday. On Thursday, she tripled and singled and had two RBIs as the Islanders beat Cranston East. Bolano started her week with two hits in a victory over Narragansett on June 7.

SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Some Newport County lacrosse teams advance; season ends for others

Host Portsmouth bolted to a 9-0 lead after one quarter and rolled to a 15-8 win over Cumberland in a Division I quarterfinal playoff game. The No. 3 seed Patriots were so efficient in defeating the No 6 seed Clippers they were able to remove most of the starters and varsity players midway through the third quarter. Portsmouth advanced to the semifinals and are scheduled to play at No. 2 seed La Salle tonight at 6 p.m., according to the tournament website.

During his time at Middletown High, Nathan balanced academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. Before arriving at Middletown, he was enrolled at Cibola High in Yuma, Arizona, where he carried a 4.286 GPA and ranked No. 3 in his class. The real estate market in Newport County is still going strong with the sale of three homes, each more than $1 million at the end of May. One such home, known as Hilltop, is the childhood home of Artist Richard Grosvenor. The five bedroom home that features a two story library with original leaded glass windows, is located at 97-105 Ruggles Avenue in Newport. It sold on May 26 for $3,075,000.
