A Unicoi County school bus was involved in a crash in Erwin on Friday. According to Director of Schools John English, a bus carrying two classes of eighth-graders traveling back from a field trip was rear-ended near the intersection of State Route 107 and Jonesborough Road at roughly 2:40 p.m.

A Morganton woman has been charged with killing one of her sisters. Hannah Renee Waldron, 23, of 6125 Gold Mine Road in Morganton, was charged with murder Wednesday in the shooting death of her sister on Sept. 17, according to court records and a statement from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

COVID testing hours to change at health departments starting Monday

The Northeast Regional Health Office announced Friday that COVID-19 testing hours at its eight testing sites will be changing on Monday. Those health departments include: Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins-Church Hill, Hawkins-Rogersville, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties. PCR tests will be administered by staff Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-9:30 a.m., with self-test kits available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
