NEWBERRY — Recently, the Newberry Area Tourism Association Board of Directors unanimously voted to officially hire Andrew Rasch as their new executive director as of Jan. 2. Rasch comes to the organization with many years of experience in hotel management and tourism marketing. He has served on the board of directors for Visit Escanaba since 2015 and has served as vice president since 2019. He has worked in hospitality in general since 2007. Rasch had approached the board with several proposals to improve the organization's effectiveness. This led to his participation in an October meeting, eventually hiring him as the executive director.

Randy was born on February 17, 1939 in Bowling Green, Ohio to the late Donald and Mildred (Johnston) Gallier. He married the love of his life Linda Rossow and they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on June 26, 2021. Randy is survived by his children: Deborah (Kelly) Tussing of Curtice and Scott (Rhonda) Gallier of Lake Zurich, Illinois; grandchildren: Abigail and Mary Gallier, Matthew (Jessie) Van Vorhis, Andrew (Kayleigh) Van Vorhis, Nicholas (Kristen) Tussing, Jeremy (Katie) Tussing and Abbey (Alex Espinoza) Tussing and great-grandchildren: Jade and Jolene Van Vorhis and Liam, Finn and Emma Tussing. Oswald’s Bear Ranch to pay fine following USDA lawsuit

NEWBERRY, Mich. (WJMN) – Oswald’s Bear Ranch in Newberry will pay a $2,400 fine resulting from a complaint with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In court documents provided to us by PETA, The complaint alleged that the owners of Oswald’s Bear Ranch had violated the Animal Welfare Act by failing to provide structurally sound housing and sufficient nutritional food for the bears at its facility. The USDA filed the complaint following a tip from PETA that alleged the owners had misrepresented the circumstances surrounding a power outage in April of 2019 which allowed two bears to escape the facility.
