FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - Approximately $6,500 worth of catalytic converters and about $4-5,000 worth of copper optic scrap cable were stolen out of a secured building. The Otter Tail county Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary from an individual stating that someone had broken into their building in Newton Township east of New York Mills. They stated it either happened late sometime Saturday, May 21st or early in the morning of Sunday, May 22nd.

NEW YORK MILLS, Minn. (KFGO) – The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of 65 catalytic converters and copper optic scrap cable. The burglary happened sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday at a building east of New York Mills. The estimated total value of the material is just over $10,000.

Susan Joy Gilbertson (Bergeron) ascended to her heavenly home December 18, 2021. Survived by husband, Everett; sisters, Patti and Mary; children, Jeffrey and Maria; step-children, Jason and EvLyn; and seven grandchildren. Joined in heaven by daughter, Jill (Susan) Bates; and preceded in death by parents, Jack and Virginia Bergeron. Graduate LPN and RN, Susan provided care to all, was a vision of love through strength and resiliency, and a prayer warrior for all who knew her. Memorial service 11 a.m., Saturday June 4, 2022 at Basswood Baptist Church, with a visitation one hour prior at 38188 340th St., Richville, MN 56576 with lunch and fellowship to follow. Congratulations to the Ashby Arrow Solo and Ensembles Students this year! Our students performed in the Solos and Ensembles Contest at Henning, Wednesday April 6th. The students did an extraordinary job. The Girls Quartet sang and received a Satisfactory. Kaylee Schlundt received an Excellent performing a vocal solo. Kennady Skougard (right) received a Superior rating performing a vocal solo. Max Gronwold (left) and Kennady Skougard received a Superior performing a flute duet. Kennady and Max went to the State Solos Ensembles at M-State in Fergus Falls Saturday, May 7th and both received Superior ratings for their state level performances. Lakewood Health System is encouraging residents to take step to better health with a regular weekly event. Walk with a Doc is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire communities through movement and conversation. This Thursday, May 26th and every Thursday at 5:15 PM, Lakewood’s main campus in Staples will be encouraging area residents to take a step toward a healthier and better approach to physical health.

Underwood participated in the Quad County golf meet last Wednesday at Tipsinah Mounds. For the boys, Trevor Swonger won the meet by 11 strokes while posting his best score of the year with a two under par 69. He works hard and puts a lot of pressure on himself to do well so it was nice to see him post a score of under par. Our two freshmen, Hudson Risbrudt and Jaxon Swonger also played well with Hudson posting an 84 and placing 9th and Jaxon a shot an 85 placing 11th. They continue to get better every meet. In the girls division, Amber Frigaard had her best nine of her career, shooting a 40 on the back nine ending up with a 92 and placing 4th. Amber has been consistent all year and is starting to play her best golf heading into the conference meet on Monday, May 23.

The Battle Lake High School Trap Team has had a cold and wet 2022 season. The team consists of 22 kids, 17 boys and 5 girls who have all been practicing hard to improve their skills. The team has one week left of competition to determine conference standings. On June 4th there will be a multi school tournament at Dalton outdoors followed by the Alexandria State shoot on June 14th.

The Otter Tail Central Girls track and field team placed 2nd at the Park Region Conference Meet in Wadena on May 17.

Underwood Liquor Store applied for a facility award through the MMBA (Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association) and were chosen for the community involvement award for the work they did with Boots on the Ground and fund raising for the Underwood Fire Dept. They received a $300 grant to use on a community improvement project and are using the money to update and make the city beach more family friendly. FRAZEE (KDLM) – Construction on Highway 87 in Frazee will begin next week. High 87 will close between High 10 and Country Road 10/Juniper Avenue beginning Tuesday, May 31. Lane closures and Flaggers will occur in front of the Frazee High School between County Road 29/Birch Avenue and North River Drive.
