Tokyo Olympics: Cheering Sydney McLaughlin, with every beat of his new heart | Politi

Willie McLaughlin had an invitation to watch his daughter run in the Tokyo Olympics at a giant watch party in Orlando, but he declined. He had another chance to be around a throng of supporters in New Jersey on Friday night, but again, he politely said no. NBC even asked to send a camera crew to their house in Dunellen during the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries, but once more, he refused.

Serena Williams on Self-Care, Her Peloton Habit, and Why We Need to Help Girls Stick With Sports

Serena Williams—yes, the Serena Williams who revolutionized tennis, won more Grand Slam titles than any other player in the Open Era, and earned four Olympic gold medals over the course of her career—made her professional debut when she was 14. While that seems young, many girls are already on their way out of sports by then. In fact, according to the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF), by age 14, girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys.

New York City Football Club Taps Staple Design for Capsule Collection

New York City Football Club and Staple Design have partnered to launch a new apparel collection on July 30 at NYCFC and Staple’s respective stores and select retailers. The collection — comprised of short- and long-sleeve T-shirts, hoodies and accessories like a Pintrill pin and scarf ranging in price from $12 to $80 — is born from the partners’ shared mascot: the pigeon. Though the designs nod to the New York City subway map and the commute from Staple’s Lower East Side headquarters to NYCFC’s home base at Yankee Stadium, the two found synergy in the dark-colored dove.

Who can forget Mother’s Day night, shortly after 9 p.m. just over 2 1/2 months ago?. It was at that time word started leaking out — the PSAL was going to allow a six-game football schedule between May 15-June 19. Just a few months after it looked like public school seniors from around the city wouldn’t have a final year on their resumes, the season was on.

Kyrie Irving Has Left ROC Nation Sports Management | Brooklyn Nets

Not even 24 hours removed from the Nike situation Brooklyn Nets Allstar Kyrie Irving has left ROC Nation management. This is a huge move strictly from the pure superstar power of Irving. When superstars switch management it’s possible they ask for different things from their team. Hopefully this doesn’t effect his standing with Brooklyn, but it’s interesting non the less.

Brooklyn Nets Trade Landry Shamet For Jevon Carter and a draft pick

Welp. 2 hours before the draft and Shamet is gone. Sean Marks appears to be clearing up cap space for something big. Jevon Carter is a reserve player on the Phoenix Suns that doesn’t much if any minutes at all. One can’t imagine Brooklyn would let go of a major rotation piece like Landry for someone that doesn’t even play and a draft pick without a bigger move being on the horizon. The Nets now several first round picks and seem to be attempting to make a major splash before the draft starts tonight.

Brooklyn Nets Draft Cameron Thomas and more

The Brooklyn Nets have drafted Cameron Thomas, Day’Ron Sharpe, Kessler Edwards, Marcus Zegarowski & Raiquan Gray at the 2021 NBA Draft. GM Sean Marks has done the unthinkable yet again. In a season where Brooklyn was the second seed in the eastern conference, the Nets managed to added 6 players in the span of 5 hours. The summer league should absolutely be interesting to say the least.
