Jean White, 86, educator, artist, author and for decades a major presence in Woodstock community affairs, died on August 29, leaving a legacy of kindness and inspired public engagement. A member of a pioneering Woodstock family, Jean was a trustee of the Woodstock Historical Society, a mainstay of Woodstock Meals on Wheels, a member of Village planning committees, and a pillar of the Woodstock Christian Science Church, which she served as clerk, church reader, Sunday school teacher, librarian and Reading Room attendant.

He was born in Grindstone Pennsylvania in October 1923. He was the youngest of six children. Due to the early death of his father and illness of his mother, Joe at age 3, along with his siblings, were raised at St. Nicholas Orphanage in Elmhurst, Pennsylvania by the Sisters of St. Basil the Great. Joe was in the Navy during WWII and participated in the D Day invasion in Normandy, France, the liberation of the Philippines, and the occupation of Japan.

Chester H. Dalzell – known to all as Chet – died at home on September 15, 2021 at the age of 97. He was born in Pawling on August 13, 1924 to Ray F. And Ruth (Baker) Dalzell, the only boy between two sisters. He graduated from Pawling High School and lived in Pawling his entire life. At the time of his death he was the oldest and longest-serving member of the Pawling Fire Department, having joined at age 20 and served for 77 years. For several of those years he served as treasurer, and he also assisted at weekly bingo games. Once he was asked if his father, who was Chief when Chet joined, had pressured him. “Heck no! I WANTED to join!” Chet said.
