COVID-19 cases slowly rise again in Orange County as vaccination pace remains sluggish

GOSHEN - Just two weeks ago, Orange County had a single newly confirmed case of COVID-19 in one day and appeared ready to drop to zero for the first time in 17 months. But then daily cases climbed into the teens and reached 39 and 38 on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, respectively, according to state Department of Health data. And by Thursday, county health officials had logged 122 active coronavirus cases across the county, with 38 in Middletown and 22 in Warwick.

23 test positive for COVID-19 in summer camp outbreak

At Camp Pontiac, a seven-week coed sleepaway camp in Copake, the Columbia County Department of Health is grappling with 23 campers testing positive for COVID-19. The county department of health director Jack Mabb said he currently has a team of nurses at the camp evaluating the outbreak, which was reported on Saturday. All the children were under the 12-year-old threshold to receive the coronavirus vaccine. Infected campers are either at home or isolating at the camp if they are from out of state. He said an estimated 65 other campers who were in contact with those infected have been sent home to quarantine and are expected to return after two weeks.

HealthAlliance in Kingston offers new heart care services

WMCHealth has announced the opening of a new cardiac catheterization laboratory at HealthAlliance Hospital on Broadway in Kingston. The new laboratory offers treatments for blocked arteries, irregular heartbeats and coronary heart disease: services previously unavailable in Ulster County. The service operates under the direction of WMCHealth’s Heart and Vascular Institute.
