Doctor Donates $1 Million to PBMC Emergency Department

A retired doctor and philanthropist has donated $1 million to the Emergency Department at Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC), to be put toward a dedicated space for critical care and trauma needs. This will be the first step in an impending phased expansion and renovation of the hospital’s emergency department.

Much to Celebrate at Westbrook Historical Society Tea

The Westbrook Historical Society (WHS) sponsored an afternoon tea on Sept. 12 at the Captain Stannard House, South Main Street, Westbrook. The event was catered by Jackie Blomberg with a donation from the Elks Club. In keeping with the historical part of the organization, a speaker made a presentation about the sea captains and their homes in town. The artists who will perform Sunday in New London's Hygienic Art Park will all tell you the gig that day is special and it's an honor to be part of it. They're donating their melodies to a benefit for the Daddy Jack Chaplin Foundation, an organization dedicated to scholarships to cooking school for would-be culinary students. Sadly, since Chaplin passed earlier this year, he's no longer available to continue his beloved role as a chef, a mentor, a benefactor and lover of the arts, and a committed activist on behalf of New London.
