Berwick, Pa. — A Berwick woman lied about her household income to get thousands of dollars in food stamps, officials say. Crystal L. WILKES-BARRE, Pa, (WOLF) — A Luzerne County man has been arrested and charged with a murder-for-hire plot. Attorney General Josh Shapiro and Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce announced the arrest Tuesday of Fernidand Cuevas-Herida, for attempting to arrange the murders of several witnesses tied to previously charged crimes against him for sexual offenses involving female members of his family.

One dead in Luzerne County standoff

A standoff with police in one part of Luzerne County over the weekend leaves a man dead. It happened in Nanticoke. Police were called to reports of a domestic dispute early Sunday morning at a home on West Grand Street. When officers arrived, a shot was fired from an upstairs window and they learned the man had barricaded himself in. Several more shots were soon fired. Others in the home were able to get out unharmed. When police were able to get into the home, they found the man dead of a self inflicted gun shot wound.

Last month, the keys were officially handed over to the new owner of the utility squad from Ashland that served the borough for decades. In 1983, the American Hose Company #1 purchased a Ford E-350 with and RV Cutaway brand new.
