Nebraska man found with fake passport after crash sentenced to prison

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska man who crashed his car last year, leading police to find his fake passport among the wreckage, has been sentenced to federal prison. The Grand Island Independent reported Monday that 31-year-old Jesse Chase Swartz, of North Platte, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for possession of a fraudulent passport. Prosecutors say Swartz’s fraud was discovered on July 29, 2020. when his vehicle crashed and rolled on Interstate 80 in Hamilton County.

72-year-old man killed, suspect charged in Nebraska

CHADRON, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a man has been charged in the death of a 72-year-old man in Chadron. Dawes County Attorney Vance Haug says 20-year-old Ian Little Moon, also known as Sage Little Moon, is charged with first-degree murder and felony use of a deadly weapon in the death of John Martinez.

Scam calls, texts targeting electric customers in Nebraska

COLUMBUS, Neb. (KCAU) — Scams targeting electric customers are on the rise in Nebraska. Scammers will either call or text their victims and demand a bill be paid or their power will be shut off. The Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) said they will never threaten to shut off power and scammers rely on confusion and panic.

Silver Alert canceled, missing Lawrence couple found in Nebraska

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has canceled the statewide silver alert for Russell Stevens, 76, and Mina Stevens, 71. The KBI said the couple was located in North Platte, Nebraska by North Platte PD. Their family has been notified and is on their way to assist them with getting back to Lawrence.

HPD: Man found shot to death inside car in NE Houston

HOUSTON – Officers found a man fatally shot inside a car in northeast Houston early Saturday, according to the Houston Police Department. At approximately 1 a.m. northeast patrol officers with the Houston Police Department were dispatched to the 5700 block of Westbrook Road in reference to reports of a shooting.

(AP) – Nebraska State Patrol officials have defended their state-funded mission to the U.S.-Mexican border in Texas, arguing that they answered a call for help from fellow law enforcement officers amid a surge in illegal border crossings. Patrol officials described the situation in Del Rio, Texas, as a humanitarian crisis, and said many locals welcomed them. The agency has come under some criticism in Nebraska for agreeing to not seek repayment for the services it provided to Texas at Nebraska taxpayers’ expense.
