Sheriff investigates Highway 75 accident

NEBRASKA CITY – A driver was taken to the hospital with suspected injuries Thursday afternoon after a one-vehicle accident on Highway 75 near Road C. A man drove his a pickup and trailer from the roadway, went over a field access road and into a stand of trees. The truck sustained front-end damage by hitting a tree before coming to a stop.

Shen schools prepare for 'the unthinkable'

(Shenandoah) -- From hurricanes in Florida, to earthquakes in California, to mass shooting incidents in Texas, disasters can strike anywhere. Not even Shenandoah is immune to "the unthinkable." That's why the Shenandoah School District joined local law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel staged a mock disaster drill Friday afternoon. Shenandoah School Superintendent Dr. Kerri Nelson tells KMA News students and staff at both the JK-8 Building and Shenandoah High School were evacuated in accordance with the district's emergency operations protocol, and walked to a rendezvous point at a remote location.

Carl T. Calfee

Carl T. Calfee, age 58, of Nebraska City moved to heaven on September 22, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Carl was born on April 4, 1964 in Warrenton, VA to Gary and Gladys (Stiverson) Calfee. Carl and his sisters, Kellie, and Cindy, grew up as military brats. Carl lived in California, Hawaii, Okinawa, and Massachusetts before graduating from South Page High School in 1982. Carl worked as a nurse for 36 years and held a B.A. in history as well. He was loved by co-workers and patients for his compassion and kindness. Carl married Leigh Dyke on June 11, 1992, and they had two sons, Trent, and Luke. Carl loved painting with pastels and oils, kayaking with Trent, playing bass guitar with Luke and hiking with Leigh. Carl was simply one of the happiest, best humans ever.

Fifteen years and worked at Cargill. Lorraine loved playing bingo, watching movies, music, cooking, and spending time with her family and cats. Survivors include her sons, Dillon (Lisa) Pack and Donald Pack, both of Nebraska City; sisters, Catherine Tye, Barbara May and Julie Bael; aunt, Purificacion Bull; many other relatives and friends. Shirley Ann Pfeiffer, age 84 of Nebraska City died September 22, 2022 at her home. Shirley was born April 27, 1938 in Nebraska City , the daughter of Theodore and Emma (keen)Gieseking. After graduating from Nebraska City High School in 1956 she married Glen “Curly” Pfieffer April 8, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Paul and they were married 52 years before Curly passed away. They made their home southwest of Nebraska City to raise their family and were members of St.josheph’s Catholic Church. Sherley loved playing cards, camping, reading, needle working and spending time with her family. Shirley was well known as the “cake lady”, she baked and decorated wedding and birthday cakes.
