Backpacks of Love Brings School Supplies to Families in Need

Even though school has let out for the summer, Backpacks of Love is already hard at work preparing for the 2022-2023 school year. With support from Collin Street Bakery, the organization will be handing out school supplies 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 and Wednesday, Aug 3 at the Cook Education Center, located on the Navarro College campus at 3100 W. Collin Street in Corsicana.

ERCOT Asks Texans to Save Power This Weekend

Statement by Electric Reliability Council of Texas Interim CEO, Brad Jones on current grid conditions. PRESS RELEASE: With unseasonably hot weather driving record demand across Texas, ERCOT continues to work closely with the power industry to make sure Texans have the power they need. This afternoon, six power generation facilities tripped offline resulting in the loss of approximately 2,900 MW of electricity. At this time, all generation resources available are operating. We’re asking Texans to conserve power when they can by setting their thermostats to 78-degrees or above and avoiding the usage of large appliances (such as dishwashers, washers and dryers) during peak hours between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. through the weekend.

Sam Houston, we have a solution. As part of a past Corsicana Education Foundation grant, Debbie Powers, school counselor, was awarded enough funds to buy books to have literary sales on campus. The grant covered new books, but she was missing one key element that would help her distribute the books – A vending machine. Mrs. Powers searched for a solution to her problem.

23rd Annual Youth Art Show Honors Youth Awardees

Awardees for the 23rd Annual Youth Art Show, “Celebration of Our History, Heritage and Future of Navarro County,” have been announced for this year. Juror for the contest was professional artist and college art instructor, Laura Briseno. Students were judged in three categories: Elementary (Pre-K through Fourth Grade), Middle School (fifth Grade through Eighth Grade), and High School. Cash awards were given to the first, second, and third place winners in each category. There were over 200 entries.
