Women's Tennis Concludes at ITA Tournament

GENEVA, N.Y. - Junior Alex Mednikova advanced to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, but could not get past the No. 2 seed 6-4, 6-2 despite playing well. Mednikova, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (RPI) final singles finisher, was seeded among those in Nos. 5-8. The Round of 16 singles had three Engineers in freshman Lorna Flores Gonzalez, junior Rani Jones and Mednikova. Flores Gonzalez was eliminated by Anastastia Balyk of NYU 6-2, 6-1, while Jones lost in three sets to Hamilton's Hannah Apsey, who was among those seeded Nos. 5-8, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

With a 14-3 lead, the Orange gave up a tipped pass pick-six, to bring Albany within four. They would never end up coming near the end zone until the fourth quarter, and the Orange would ultimately be up 45-10 and the half and win by a score of 62-24.

Syracuse wide receiver Taj Harris is out for the Orange’s game against Albany on Saturday. Harris has 14 catches for 151 yards through two games. On the ACC Network broadcast, it was indicated that Harris was out due to injury not disciplinary reasons. Harris is the top pass catcher for the Orange. Syracuse entered the game 1-1 on the season.
